All BUFVC courses are delivered by expert practitioners in the field of moving image and sound and provide practical advice and guidance with the opportunity to discuss specific work-related issues.

Encoding Digital Video for Streaming and Network Delivery (Introduction), Wednesday 23 October 2013

An introduction to digitising moving images for online delivery, including guidance on solving issues encountered in the process.

Attendees will gain an understanding of:

  • content – producing new or reusing existing
  • analogue and digital formats, telecine transfer
  • encoding, storing and networking content

This course offers greater technical insight into the challenges involved with digitising moving images for online delivery.

Attendees will gain an understanding of:

  • system software and file formats
  • storage and networking
  • server technology, backing up and archiving

Copyright Clearance for Print, Broadcast and Multimedia Production, Thursday 14 November 2013

An essential one-day course for those needing to copy, use and provide access to existing content in their work.  The course is delivered by Alma Hales, Head of Intellectual Property at the Open University and Bernadette Attwell, former Deputy Head of Intellectual Property at the Open University.

Attendees will gain an understanding of:

  • types of work which are protected
  • rights ownership and licensing
  • the status of copyright exceptions
  • the meaning of ‘fair dealing’
  • the process of rights clearance.
