- Description
- Robbie Vincent visits St Helier, Jersey, and looks back at the island’s history and life under German occupation in the Second World War as the 50th anniversary of VE Day approaches. We hear an excerpt from British war-time Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s Second World War speech announcing the unconditional surrender and freeing of the islands, and a Pathe News report on the liberation and a royal visit. Vincent talks to a Polish man who escaped the slave labour camps; Mike Tate, a tourist manager; local historian Doug Ford. He visits a gun emplacement bunker at La Corbiere. Includes news bulletin, traffic news, weather and commercial breaks.
