- Description
- The Longest Strike, presented by BRMB’s Brian King for the Independent Local Radio (ILR) Network. A look back at the year long miners strike. Three months after the strike ended, the President of the National Union of Mineworkers Arthur Scargill was warning of further industrial trouble. Since then moves by moderate Nottingham miners to split from the NUM have been supported by miners in other areas. Former miners’ leader, Roy Ottey, looks back at the strike, and at the events which forced him to resign from the National Executive of the NUM. Speaking are: Roy Ottey; Arthur Scargill; Ian MacGregor, NCB; Jimmy Knapp, NUR; Ron Todd, TGWU. Includes interviews with and recordings of striking miners and miners’ wives. Broadcast on BRMB in Summer 1985.
