News bulletin with hostage report by Andrew Simmons; report by Anita Findlay(?) on the National Union of Seamen’s strike (includes interview with NUS Assistant General Secretary Sam McCluskie); Paul Davies’s report on the trial of Andrew Marr - accused of killing Martin Johnston; the disappearance of Old Vic actor Barry Woolgar, whose understudy Richard Kay has been given three days to learn his part for Loveless, to open tonight. Adrian Scott, Andrew Simmons and Nick Peters report on the release of the US hostages. Robert Tanitch is interviewed about a scheme to educate pupils about Shakespeare. Rome correspondent Michael Hall is interviewed by Angela Bray about a train crash in Italy. Paul Davies reports on the Martin Johnston murder trial - Barbara Pilkington will take the stand to testify against her common law husband Andrew Marr. Rodney Bennett report on the disappearance of actor Barry Woolgar (includes interview with Victoria Bott(?) of the Old Vic). Bob Holness introduces an interview with Equity General Secretary Peter Plouviez about the union’s rejection of the BBC’s pay offer to its actors. Recording ends midway through Plouviez’s interview.
