Description
Former Conservative and Ulster Unionist MP, Enoch Powell is interviewed by Geoffrey Goodman and talks about a new book, edited by Richard Ritchie, about his thoughts on Europe. Goodman takes telephone calls from listeners on Zimbabwe and South Africa as well as on drug problems. Powell talks about Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s European policies, the changes in Parliament during his time and the Treaty of Rome of 1957. He then moves on to talk about the role of the United States in Europe and the changes taking place in the USSR and the role of Soviet politician Mikhail Gorbachev. Goodman then takes calls from listeners about the ageing population of the UK, immigration, the Channel Tunnel and Powell’s future. Clip also includes Midday News with Dianne Stradling: Labour Health spokesperson Harriet Harman attacks the Government for stopping a sex survey. Lurpak butter jingle follows.
