Second part of LWT Weekend World programme originally broadcast in October 1978 with presenter Brian Walden interviewing General Secretary of the General and Municipal Workers’ Union (GMWU) David Basnett on the impasse between Prime Minister James Callaghan and the trade unions over the Labour Government’s pay policy. With Callaghan determined to stick to a five percent wage increase limit to keep down inflation and the unions pressing for a return to free collective bargaining.
