- Description
- The London Interview. Keith Howell interviews war photographer Don McCullin, who tells how he joined the Royal Air Force because he didn’t want to join the Army to do his national service. On his return to Finsbury Park he used his camera to take photographs of his friends and was eventually hired by the Observer newspaper. He says his entire career has been dogged by violence, from his rough upbringing to the wars he has documented. His first assignments were in Cyprus, the Congo, Vietnam, and Cambodia, where he was seriously injured. He says his experiences resulted in horrific nightmares and he wants to give up taking war photographs. His work is currently being exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Interview in two parts, divided by short break in audio.
