Description
City Week. The week’s news as seen by LBC’s Financial Unit. Presented by Tom Maddocks. Report on inflation and interest rates. Chairman of Abbey National Building Society, Sir Campbell Adamson, has said mortgage rates are likely to rise before they go down again. There has been a downturn in business confidence due to the lorry drivers’ strike. Chairman of the CBI Economic Committee, Sir Raymond Pennock says the cause of the lack of confidence was a drop in export orders. Stockbrokers Phillips and Drew’s chief economist Dr Paul Neald(?) says we should expect inflation to go to double figures, and proposes cutting public spending or raising taxes as a solution. There is an overview of firms benefiting from British Government overseas aid. Dick Grace of Conti Commodities gives the current values of silver, gold, zinc, copper, lead, coffee, and cocoa. There is a definition of balance of payments figures; Mark Rogerson(?) of stockbrokers Batmaster and Moore(?) explains invisible exports; pension schemes are briefly mentioned. Trident Life Marketing Director, Charles Woodhouse tells Douglas Moffitt about the advantages of the Trident pension plan. Studio production by Ray Gannon(?).
