Description
Report on the alleged shooting of a trouble-making American student by an Iranian student in the USA. The authorities want to play the incident down in case it endangers the diplomats being held hostage in Iran. In Washington, anti-Iranian protesters are calling for the death of Ayatollah Khomeini. President Carter has appealed for calm. US State Department spokesman Hodding Carter III says they are continuing to explore diplomatic channels, but he cannot say when hostages can be released. The USA does not want to change its policy on no use of force, no return of Shah, and world public opinion will continue to be used to pressurise Iran. The reporter is Andrew Manderstam.
