- Description
- Brian Hayes interviews Byron Hove on why he was sacked as Justice Minister in the new Rhodesian interim government; the decision was not reached with the consensus of the Executive Council. Bishop Muzorewa had not been consulted and was having to deal with a bunch of rogues on the Council: the other two black leaders (Chirau and Sithole) and Ian Smith. This is a setback to the work of the government and he does not expect the support of Britain’s Foreign Secretary, Dr David Owen, in getting his position back. The transitional government must be seen to be implementing the movement towards majority rule. Whilst the Patriotic Front and Robert Mugabe were also dedicated to this, the future Zimbabwe’s rulers must be installed democratically and the people should be allowed to choose the system of government they want.
