Captain Stephen Roskill on the death of Grand Admiral Karl Doenitz, Commander of the German Navy during World War II. He says if Hitler had listened to Doenitz’s advice, the Nazis would have won the battle for the Atlantic. He says Doenitz was a great war leader - feared and respected among allied naval forces - and the decision to imprison him for war crimes was difficult to understand.
