Description

Report on a conference at which Bishop Desmond Tutu urged a return to school in January with the proviso that the South African Government meet certain demands. Otherwise, he said, teachers and pupils should boycott classes. The conference at which he spoke was organized by prominent black leader Dr Nthato Motlana, who echoed Tutu’s comments. The African National Congress said it would back any decisions which came out of the conference, and was also endorsed by Winnie Mandela.
