Description
Report on the crash of a civilian Chinook helicopter off Sunborough in the Shetland Islands, and the start of the accident investigation. The helicopter was carrying 48 oil rig workers, mostly from Aberdeen; only two survived, including the pilot. Includes Aviation Minister, Michael Spicer (from the scene) grounding the three other civilian Chinooks until the crash has been investigated; Gordon Mitchell, a Coastguard pilot on spotting the wreckage and the rescue of the two survivors; Ian Henderson, Shell UK director, confident that Chinooks are safe helicopters.
