- Description
- The Labour Party is accusing the Government of breaking a promise to the poorest in the country that they would not lose out under the community charge or poll tax. Shadow Social Security Secretary, Michael Meacher has done a survey of local authorities that measures the likely effect of inflation and other costs, and says that the Government’s plan to help those on income support will not work. Meacher says the proposal to recompense benefit claimants to the level of the average community charge will still leave many out of pocket. Male interviewer not identified.
