- Description
- Nigel Dearing interviews Marek Garztecki, former director of the Solidarity information office in London, about the first visit of Solidarity leader, Lech Walesa to the UK, in his unofficial role as ambassador for Polish industry. Although he holds no official position in the Polish Government, he is to be treated in the manner of a visiting head of state, meeting the Foreign Secretary, John Major, the Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, and the Leader of the Opposition, Neil Kinnock. Lech Walesa, a guest of the TUC, will be guest of honour at a dinner to mark the fourtieth anniversary of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions.
