- Margaret Shiels reports on an agreement on a code of practice by the editors of Britain’s national newspapers after recent controversy over invasions of privacy. The joint declaration accepts the needs for each newspaper to improve its own methods of self-regulation. The code has been welcomed by the Press Council, but rejected as unworkable by Conservative MP, John Browne, who tried to introduce his own privacy bill.
