Description
Report on a controversial 70,000 pounds compensation package, authorised by the Government, to four members of the former London Transport board installed in 1983 by the Greater London Council. The four, Arthur Latham, Merle Amory, Eleanor Lewin, and Larry Smith, were dismissed by Transport Secretary Nicholas Ridley when the GLC’s control of public transport in the capital ended in the summer of 1984. Speaking are Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher; transport spokesman for the Conservative opposition at the GLC, Cyril Taylor; Director of the Greater London Enterprise Board, John Palmer.
