- Description
- Interview with Environment Minister Michael Howard, on Government proposals to put private companies in charge of UK water supplies. They are promising that it will lead to cleaner reservoirs and rivers, with a new policing authority to make sure that firms do not pollute the environment. The big sell-off will raise up to seven billion pounds for the Treasury. He admits there are likely to be sharp price increases to pay for cleaning up water supplies, but says a watchdog will be appointed to ensure householders are not ripped off with huge bills.
