Description
Over 7 million people have registered an interest in buying shares of the privatised electrical supply industry. Energy Secretary John Wakeham believes the minimum cost of £100 for shares is a fair price. Labour’s energy spokesman Frank Dobson says it is too cheap; he makes a reference to Sir John Edward Cohen, founder of the supermarket Tesco, who said, pile them high and sell them cheap. He also mocks Chancellor of the Exchequer John Major’s saying he desperately n eeds the money. Financial Editor Douglas Moffat says share value should increase by at least the rate of inflation, so they are a good bet. Male reporter not identified.
