- Description
- Operation Kingfisher, a drugs raid involving over 400 police officers, began a week before the (5th?) anniversary of the Broadwater Farm riot in Tottenham, London. Press reporters were invited to witness the raid; we hear an excerpt of a recording of the raid, and the mixed views of residents. Chief Superintendent Howard Driver says the operation centred on launderette proprietors Peter Lawrence and Michael Scott. Lawrence’s brother David was also convicted at Wood Green Magistrates Court and all three were sentenced to four years in prison. Division Commander David Stevens says Operation Kingfisher was justified. Female reporter not identified.
