- Description
- Crime figures are up, and the Police are to ask for more resources and more recruits. Property crime is higher than violent street crime. Police say more than a quarter of crimes could have been prevented, despite the introduction of Neighbourhood Watch schemes. Burglaries account for 21 per cent of all crimes; car crime accounts for a quarter. Serious crime, including rape, has increased by 10 per cent. Sexual offences are up by 16 per cent, probably due to more offences being reported. Scotland Yard’s Commander Richard Monk urges women to come forward and report sexual attacks. Female reporter not identified.
