- Description
- Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher addresses the House of Commons for the first time since the leadership challenge made by Michael Heseltine. Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown quotes Thatcher from a five-year-old interview, in which she said she would step down. Conservative right-winger Teddy Taylor attempts to rubbish Heseltine’s plans to take education funding out of local government and into Whitehall. Labour MP, Jack Thompson raises issues from the Heseltine manifesto, including his pledge to review the poll tax. If Heseltine wins outright in the first ballot, this could be Thatcher’s last appearance in the Commons as Prime Minister. Male reporter not identified.
