Description
A report has been released recommending what books children should read in the classroom. It also covers how English should be taught in general. It warns that, although standard English should be taught, this should not be to the detriment of local dialects, nor should children be forced to cram grammar if it clashes with their normal speech. Whilst welcoming most of the report, Education Secretary Kenneth Baker has described parts of it as woolly. Peter Spencer asks the questions.
