Description

PLO leader Yasser Arafat speech in which he states he wants peace with Israel after the Palestine National Council in Algiers proclaimed an independent state of Palestine. This symbolic gesture also recognises Israel as an independent state, and will put pressure on the Israelis to end their occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Until now the Palestinians, along with most Arab states, have refused to accept Israel exists.
