Kevin Murphy interviews American journalist Cary Anderson about international attempts to free 2 surviving Californian grey whales (nicknamed Crossbeat and Bonnet) which are ice-bound off the coast of Alaska. 2 Soviet ice breaking vessels have succeeded in breaking through a wall of ice which was the biggest remaining obstacle in the way. Anderson says it’s now thought freedom for the whales is only a matter of a few hours away.
