- Description
- Clayre Gribben reports on an announcement by British Coal which effectively means the end of coal mining in the South-East of England. 600 jobs will go when the Betteshanger pit, near Deal in Kent closes. British Coal originally said the colliery would stay open if miners worked weekends to increase productivity but says the men have failed to honour that promise and the pit is losing money. Includes interviews with Frank Redman, NACODS; Stuart Oliver, Coal Board; Arthur Scargill, NUM; Vic Mitchell, local historian. Broadcast on Invicta Radio.
