- Interview with former UK ambassador to the UN, Sir David Hannay, prior to a speech by UK Prime Minister John Major at the United Nations headquarters in New York where world leaders have gathered to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the formation of the organisation. Major is expected to say costs and bureaucracy must be cut if the organisation is to function in the 21st century and the Security Council should be enlarged. Hannay agrees the UN’s role must change but says some agencies must be expanded not cut back. Male interviewer not identified.
