Report on the ITC announcing which franchises have been awarded ITV broadcasting licenses. Thames Television lost to Carlton TV, reaction from Carlton’s Nigel Walmsley and unnamed female Thames employee. TV-am lost to Sunrise, reaction from Chief Executive of TV-am Bruce Gyngell and founder Michael Parkinson. TVS lost to Meridian, reaction from Meridian backer Michael Palin. Also reaction from Harry Turner of TSW who lost to West Country TV and loser Managing Director of CI3 Channel Islands Guy Defaye(?). Scottish TV, Central and Channel TV bids were unopposed but Chairman of ITC George Russell says the whole process is positive. Report by Peter Plisner.
