Davina Payne reports from Cheltenham on the decision of Mike Gatting to captain the rebel England cricket XI which will tour South Africa. Two black players, Phillip DeFreitas and Roland Butcher, have withdrawn from the tour after threats. Gatting says he has learnt nothing about apartheid despite the huge international row which now surrounds the tour plan.
