- Description
- In a speech given at the College of Europe on her visit to Bruges, British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher has shocked Britain’s European partners with her patriotic stance on Europe, claiming that it does not need to become a super-state by centralising power. MEP for Lancashire Central and Political Co-ordinator of the Tory Group in European Parliament, Michael Welsh says that Thatcher put across the British viewpoint but hopes the message will not be misinterpreted. Report by Peter Spencer begins and ends with the European National Anthem, Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.
