The tenth anniversary of the Broadwater Farm riots in Tottenham, North London, was marked today with a number of services across London, perhaps most notably a memorial service in Muswell Hill this morning for murdered PC Keith Blakelock. Series of 5 clips, 4 of them(?) originally broadcast in 1985. 1: an eyewitness account of the violence; 2: Peramjit Hayers, a member of the local police committee, says the Police were heavy-handed and racist; 3: Sir Kenneth Newman, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, defends his officers’ handling of the disturbances; 4: Elizabeth, widow of PC Blakelock, tells how she watched the riots on television the night her husband died; 5: Jeff Collins reports from the 1995 Muswell Hill church service.
