- White political prisoner Raymond Suttner along with his pet lovebird has been released after over 2 years in a Johannesburg jail, the majority spent in solitary confinement. He was arrested after the South African apartheid government declared a State of Emergency in June 1985. He has been placed under house arrest and his lawyer Peter Harris says he is under a restriction order preventing him speaking to the media along with other conditions. His sister (not identified) expresses her delight at his release. Report by Nigel Wrench includes singing by Suttner’s lovebird.
