- John Alcock reflects on an eventful week at the TUC conference in Bournemouth. There was strong support for Postal Workers leader Alan Tuffin, Seaman’s Union leader Sam McCluskey and ANC Secretary General Alfred Nzo and a decision to work with the EEC with an appearance by European Commission President Jacques Delors. As expected the EEPTU was ejected from the TUC, leader Eric Hammond and TUC General Secretary Norman Willis react. Also includes Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock speech asking for support of the government’s educational training scheme which the TUC went on to reject with reaction from Ron Todd, TGWU leader and Bill Jordan, Engineering Union; Arthur Scargill on being thrown off the TUC general council. Concludes with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne by delegates.
