Description
Twice Olympic gold medallist Sebastian Coe has failed to qualify for the 1988 Olympic Games, prompting the President of the International Olympic Committee, Juan Antonio Samaranch, to urge the British Olympic Association that Coe be selected as a wild card. Peter Elliot, who replaced Coe, has said he is happy with the plan but long-term rival Steve Cram says it is too late to change the rules and it could hinder Britain’s qualification in future competitions. Former gold medallist Allan Wells, and Mike Farrell(?) of the British Amateur Athletics Board also express their concerns. Report by Tim Knight.
