Home Office Minister, Douglas Hogg, on the Criminal Justice Act which has prohibited the carrying of knives in an attempt to crack down on crime. It has made it illegal to sell butterfly knives, handclaws, footclaws, telescopic truncheons and sword sticks. Genuine antiques are acceptable and there is a distinction between possession and sale but anyone found carrying a knife can be charged under the 1953 Prevention of Crime Act.
