- Iraq announces that up to 6,500 British and US nationals in Kuwait are being rounded up for their own safety. Includes the warning as broadcast in Kuwait by the BBC World Service. Response by British Foreign Minister, William Waldegrave and Iraq’s Ambassador to London, Dr Azmi Shafiq Al-Salihi, who states that until the conflict is resolved the hostages will remain as Iraqi guests. An open letter from Saddam Hussein to US President George Bush - in which Hussein accuses Bush of being a liar - is read out on Iraqi television by an interpreter. Patricia Maine(?), who escaped to Britain from Kuwait, claims to have seen chemical weapons being transported into Iraq. Roger Walker reports.
