Excerpt from a press statement by former US President, Jimmy Carter during a peace mission to the former Yugoslavia. His trip to Bosnia is being extended with further unscheduled talks with Serb leaders. He has also met Bosnian President, Alija Izetbegovic to brief him on the initiative. Carter says a peace plan outlined by the five-nation Contact Group (USA, Russia, Britain, France, and Germany) would be the starting point for any settlement.
