Parliamentary statement by UK Foreign Secretary, Douglas Hurd following a Government announcement that it will continue to fund the Pergau Dam project in Kuala Yong, Kelantan, Malaysia despite a High Court ruling which ruled that Hurd acted unlawfully in authorising millions of pounds’ worth of aid because the hydro-electric dam project did not help the development of Malaysia’s economy. The Foreign Secretary told the House of Commons that there will now be changes to the way three other overseas aid projects are being financed, so their legality is not in any doubt.
