Description
Interview with David Jamieson, MP for Plymouth, Devonport, on the trial verdict in the Lyme Bay canoe tragedy. The case followed the drowning on 22/03/93 of four sixth-formers, Claire Langley, Simon Dunne and Rachel Walker, and Dean Saye, from Southway Comprehensive School in Plymouth, Devon, who were swept out to sea with four other students, two inexperienced instructors and a teacher when they attempted to paddle across Lyme Bay. Peter Kite, the managing director of Active Learning and Leisure Limited which owned the outdoor pursuit centre in charge of the students, was found guilty of their manslaughter and was jailed for three years. The centre manager, Joseph Stoddart, was found not guilty of the same charges. David Jamieson calls for proposals to tighten legislation regarding activity centres. Interviewer not heard.
