- Description
- John Duke, Chief Constable of Hampshire Police, discusses the arrest of some members of the so-called hippy convoy (for failing to comply with a removal order?). He claims that there was a violent, dangerous contingent within the community, who, on a previous occasion, had driven vehicles at police officers, injuring them. A firearm was found in one of the vehicles, but the owner was not caught. Duke is uncomfortable with the term, hippies, as used by the interviewer; he describes the Travellers as a mixture of Huckleberry Finn weekenders, victims of the system, and those who have had their minds poisoned with regard to authority. Female interviewer not identified.
