Eve Conway interviews Maurice de Rohan, chairman of the Herald of Free Enterprise Families Association, on the announcement that the P & O shipping company is being prosecuted for manslaughter over the tragedy at the Belgian port of Zeebrugge, when the Herald of Free Enterprise ferry capsized and one hundred and ninety-three people died (06/03/87). Summonses have been issued against three directors at the time of the disaster, the master of the Herald of Free Enterprise, and three of his crew. Maurice de Rohan’s daughter, Alison Gaillard, died in the accident with her husband, Francis. Along with P & O, formerly Townsend Car Ferries Ltd, the seven accused are: John Alcindor, deputy chief superintendent; Wallace Ayres, technical director; Jeffrey Develin, director and chief superintendent of the marine department; John Kirby, the Herald’s senior master; David Lewry, master on the night of the disaster; Leslie Sable, first officer; and Marc Stanley, assistant bosun.
