Description
The Night is Young. Carol Allen interviews African-American film director, Spike Lee about his new film, Do the Right Thing, which deals with the subject of racial conflict. The setting is a black quarter of Brooklyn, New York, where a number of small incidents build up into a major race riot. It all takes place inside twenty-four hours on a very hot summer day. The film was inspired by the Howard Beach incident on 20/12/86 when three African-American men were assaulted by local teenagers; one of the victims, Michael Griffith, was killed when a passing motorist’s car ran over him as he was attempting to flee. Spike Lee talks about the influence of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King.
