A British soldier kidnapped in Colombia by left wing guerrillas may have been on a birdwatching trip when he was seized, it emerged tonight. Timothy Cowley is a staff sergeant with the general adjutant’s corps working for the British Embassy in Colombia. Richard Sanders of the Daily Telegraph explains how news of the kidnapping, which took place some days ago, came out.
