The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr George Carey, says it is time to promote strong Christian ideals in family life. He has told the Mothers’ Union that British family life has changed radically in the past twenty years, but has also said that reactionary calls for a return to the 1950s are not the answer. In an excerpt from his address, he comments on the decline of marriage and the family unit, which he believes coincides with a decline in religious observance. Robin White reports.
