- Petroc Trelawny reports from Buckingham Palace on the VJ Day 50th anniversary celebrations. Basil Hume, Archbishop of Westminster; Dr George Carey, Archbishop of Canterbury; Viscount (John Douglas) Slim (reads Burma Epitaph); Sir Geoffrey Dalton, president of the Royal British Legion and The Right Reverend James Harkness Moderate of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, all take the microphone during the service and say a few words. Last Post is played prior to two minute silence (Trelawny talks through). Lancaster bomber passes over and releases a million poppies on the crowd. Pipers play and trumpet reveille. Male studio reporter identified only as Roger (poss. Roger Walker?).
