Description

Developers have moved into the site of the Rose Theatre in Southwark, London today and are covering the remains of the Elizabethan theatre with a layer of sand and concrete to protect it whilst an office block is built. Simon Bowden spoke to actor and campaigner Ian McKellen at the site and asked him what was going on. The site has been denied ancient monument status by Environment Secretary Nicholas Ridley.
