Nick Wood reports on a memorial service in Tokyo, Japan to their war dead on the fiftieth anniversary of their surrender at the end of the Second World War. Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama made a statement of remorse for treatment of allied POWs beforehand but no official apology has been announced.
