- Description
- Environment Secretary Nicholas Ridley is expected to give his decision today on the fate of the Rose Theatre site in Southwark. Meanwhile, campaigners have been continuing their vigil at the site in an effort to have the historic remains of Shakespeare’s theatre saved from development. Yesterday, dozens of theatrical personalities gathered at the Rose Theatre site for a show to mark their demands for the remains to be preserved and kept open to visitors. Reporter Rodney Bennett went along, and heard speeches by Ian McKellan, Steven Berkoff and Laurence Olivier.
