Bloodshed in Peking’s Tiananmen Square looks to have brought seven weeks of pro-democracy demonstrations to an end. Chinese troops with tanks, machine guns, bayonets and clubs have moved in and at least fifty protesters are feared dead. Scott Simmie, in Peking, spoke to reporter Nicky Broyd in the early hours of this morning and said he was shocked and surprised by the brutality of the troops.
