- Description
- Mike Carlton reports on the decision by Mr Justice Garland, Old Bailey judge, to abandon the case against 3 former West Midlands detectives after the convictions of the Brimingham Six were quashed on appeal 18 months ago. The police officers were facing charges of perverting the course of justice but due to the publicity it was thought they would not receive a fair trial. Includes statement by lawyer for retired George Reade who led the investigation; reaction to the ruling from two of the six men William (Billy) Power and Patrick Joseph (Paddy Joe) Hill and Chris Mullin, Labour MP, who wrote the book Error of Judgement and campaigned for their release; Irish senator Dick Roche, past chairman of the Irish Commission for Justice and Peace on the views in Dublin and effect of the case on perception of the British justice system.
